Amusing Ourselves To Death: Blog #3

Today’s society is most definitely reliant on technology. Cell phones, GPS, Google, computers. I think it’s safe to say those are a part of everyday life for most people.  Personally, I could not live without my phone, even for a day at most.  We have instant access to anything and everything; music, shopping, friends. You are never left out of the loop with things like Twitter and Facebook. I mean it’s great to be so technologically advanced, but to be so dependent on it is honestly sad! Human contact is like gone. We all sit with our phones in front of our faces instead of having a decent conversation with someone. Were always checking our phones and honestly, we. Are. Lazy. As Les Palmer from Peninsula Clarion  puts it: “Instead of spending our spare time outdoors and getting some fresh air and exercise, we become slaves to technology.” Kids these days, even some adults, don’t even know how to read and navigate a map! They’re so used to using Google maps or some online navigation system. I saw this really interesting video on YouTube that this reminds me of. This guy is in a beautiful city, and all he wants to do is look at his phone, because he thinks that's what will help him see the city best, but not once does he look up to realize whats' around him. Hes passing up all the beautiful things in life because hes so technologically obsorbed.
However, we have new medical technology that helps us live longer, learn more and become a better community and population as humans. In my opinion, THAT is the good technology. The kind that can help us give back to the world, and that can help people.

Media Literacy is defined on media lit as the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media in a variety of forms.an expanded definition included that it was a framework to access, analyze, evaluate and create messages in a variety of forms from print to video to the Internet. And it builds understanding of media in society

I would definitely describe myself media literate. I use different kinds of media in my everyday life, I understand it, and create it. I use online media every day, with twitter, news, and in school we read books.

The post man is right. I think that our technology is moving so fast, something is going to cause our demise. Like as of now, we are polluting our earth with vehicles, and modern technology in general. We have military technology that could backfire on us one day; different countries competing to be the best. We are too absorbed in what’s right in front of us than with the future repercussions of our actions.
